There has been a lot of hype surrounding wool dryer balls lately, and it is well deserved. By switching from dryer sheets to wool dryer balls you can eliminate toxic chemicals, cut down on waste and still keep your clothes soft.
Dryer sheets are actually full of toxic chemicals. A study from the University of Washington, (read it HERE) tested various consumer products and found that the dryer sheets tested contained ethanol and a-pinene both of which are classified as toxic or hazardous according to federal regulations.
Further bad news if you have asthma: 21.2% noted irritation from the scent of laundry products, including dryer sheets and fabric softeners. What is truly frightening is the fact that manufacturers of consumer goods are not required to disclose ingredients to customers. Fragrance ingredients are also exempt from being disclosed to consumers, and depending on the products, the word “fragrance” may or may not have to be listed.

Not only does switching to dryer balls eliminate toxic chemicals, they also have other benefits:
  • Reduce dry time by 25-30%, helping you save money on your electric bill
  • Zero waste- no dryer sheet to throw away
  • Made from wool, a renewable resource that can be composted rather than thrown away
  • Fluffs laundry, leaving it soft

Dryer balls work by helping to separate layers of laundry as the dryer tumbles and allowing for better air circulation and moisture evaporation. Wool dryer balls are a better choice than plastic dryer balls as they are far quieter and can be composted when they wear out.

Switching from toxic dryer sheets to zero waste dryer balls is an easy way to reduce your environmental footprint, improve the air quality in your home and save you money. It’s a win-win-win for everyone!
